Two Days in Sukhum | Letters from Abkhazia

“Since I won’t be able to spend Easter at home in Gali with my parents this year, I decided to travel there early, to see my family, my friends, and Sukhum…”

ᯓ Letters from Abkhazia ᯓ  is a collection of messages from people who were once acquaintances and have since become friends. Some take the form of personal reflections, while others arrive as photographs or short videos.

These letters capture fleeting thoughts and emotions from everyday life in Abkhazia. They are written in the present tense of uncertainty because their authors themselves do not know what the future holds: whether they will remain where they are, finding a sense of peace within a homeland that increasingly feels enclosed, or leave in search of safety, stability, and new beginnings for themselves and their children in a more open world.

To protect those who share their stories and to spare them unnecessary hardship, all of these letters are published anonymously.
