Erotica was the only thing that could still bring crowds into cinema
Arsen Beriashvili was a self-taught artist. After World War II, he began working at the Apollo Cinema, and soon his posters adorned the facades of other cinemas as well. Over time, his works became an integral part of Soviet Tbilisi’s urban landscape—fleeting decorations that shaped the city’s visual identity—while the artist himself remained largely unseen.
This bilingual photo album gathers and preserves memories and fragmented knowledge about Arsen Beriashvili. Through the insights of art theorists and researchers of his work, it presents the first biographical study of this unique yet overlooked artist. Combining historical narratives with his surviving creations, the photobook offers a rare glimpse into his artistic legacy.
