This is one of the most beautiful books written about war-times; that, also, avoids being militaristic. As the title suggests, it is rather an elegy, based on personal memories of the author, who is an artist, currently based in New York and who fled the Abkhazian War in 1990s from his beloved childhood city of Sokhumi. Eniki Beniki is about this particular city that exists only in the writer’s imagination. This is the book of resurrection of the memories, a sort of a farewell to the pre-war epoque that has completely disappeared, but memories persist.
