On the 20th of February Indigo opened the Multimedia Exhibition and presented the publication dedicated to Abkhazia. "Sokhumi is Open and There is the Sea" is a virtual tour that offers moving imagery and postcards to those unable to reach Abkhazia, shared by those who remain there.
The exhibition intertwines the experiences, visions, thoughts, and emotions of hundreds of people — a virtual nexus bridging societies divided by conflict, where past and present converge under the prism of the future.
Delving into the press archives of 1988-1993, the exhibition draws upon headlines and fragments from newspapers, breathing life into echoes of time preserved in library archives.
Culminating with a brand new edition of INDIGO, this textual and visual testament encapsulates personal narratives from wartime and its aftermath—stories recounted by individuals still tethered to conflict, seeking a vantage point from which to reflect on the past and envision the future.
Approximately one hundred contributors — writers, photographers, videographers, illustrators, artists, and composers — collaborated on the project’s content, their creative convergence centered in Abkhazia. Yet, the dimension of the time there, too, is the future, where the past resonates with the words: "Sukhumi is open, and there is the sea."
The exhibition and the publication are prepared within the project supported by Switzerland. The content is under the sole responsibility of INDIGO and can in no way be attributed to the donor.
